Loved the sermon. two thoughts I derived from this sermon. How do you know that you are lost? With regards to this sermon. We can convince ourselves we are lost, because we may have sin and became hard. Even though you may have been regenerate, but you struggle with alcohol, cursing, or pornography-lust. You want to be free from it and struggle with stopping, at times great victories, and other times you find the lure of your struggle? Is Paul saying your lost?
When I was converted, I wasn't aware of sin, I was convicted of sin, I knew something was wrong. but not till a couple years ago I understood sin and the gospel more than ever. Of course I came out of a charismatic background, with feelings and easy-beleivism, not truly hearing the Truth. So could all those years I was lost or could it have been God regenerating me from glory to glory?
The possible answer: could these doubts we have and deception of not knowing who we are in Christ be the problem we have? What I mean is, because we truly don't understand that we are a new creature and the old one has been put to death, just like Paul was preaching we live defeated and say yes to sin, because I am a "wretched man" attitude. If we know our identity in Christ, will we doubt our salvation? Will we hate sin and desire righteousness with every breath? Will be confident with dealing with sin now, because of Christ; being a new creature? Will we have joy and peace? I truly wonder if we can take hold of Him and know that we are new and stop listening to the devil and other pragmatic, seeker filling churches, the body of Christ might become what we should be! We would be an unstoppable force! Revival would happen. We need to get back to the Cross.
If so, then how do we as Christians start this new life. Since we have been living this teaching for a while, being so in grained us. Do we just start over?
Truly eye opening sermon!! Love how God uses Paul to deliver such a simple message that a babe could understand.
Just some thoughts I wanted to share.
Hi Testing, I'm glad the sermon blessed you, it certainly did me.
"If so, then how do we as Christians start this new life. Since we have been living this teaching for a while, being so in grained us. Do we just start over?"
-----The answer is how we believe, effects how we live. Realzie that we are indeed a new creature in Christ and sin shall not be master over us, and go to war against it.
What realy helped me on this and I highly recommend are:
1)Charles Leiter's book Justification & Regeneration. (There's a link to it on the top right of our website).
2)3 Sermons by Tim Conway Romans 7- and the Dangerous 'Wretched Christian' View (Repeat Post)
