If you were to ask most Christians what is the Gospel, they’d probably tell you something like: Jesus died on a cross, and rose again so that people can believe in Him and have eternal life. Yet if you were to ask one of the cults like the Mormons, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, or a Roman Catholic or a liberal they’d give you pretty much the same answer. The same words have different meanings to different people, and here we look at what the hearers must understand, to come to know God and be saved, in the proclamation of the Gospel.
