Is this text a reality in your life?

Kevin Williams preaches the Gospel from Luke 19:1-10 at Emmanuel Church, Workington, (note: Kevin preached from the same text in the Middleton Puritan Fellowship Sunday service, same day).
In this Gospel Sermon we look at:
-True Faith verses a superstitious prayer.
-Lordship Salvation verses the 'carnal' Christian.
-The insanity and crime of not coming to Jesus.
-Regeneration.

Quran Says Muslims Are Going To Hell

by Kevin Williams

What Islam Says About Muslims Who Say The Bible Has Been Changed.

Surah 4:136 "O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and the scripture which He hath sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him). Any who denieth Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messenger, and the Day of Judgment, hath gone far, far astray."

Notice "and the scripture which He sent to those before" and "books" plural. The Quran says that if anyone denies Allah's books which according to Islam includes the Old (Torah) and New Testament (Injeel) then they have gone "far, far astray". That means that according to the Quran virtually all modern Muslims have gone "far, far astray" and Muslims who say the Bible has been changed should greatly fear as Surah 40:70-72 says "Those who reject the Book and the (revelations) with which We sent our apostles: but soon shall they know,- 71. When the yokes (shall be) round their necks, and the chains; they shall be dragged along- 72. In the boiling fetid fluid: then in the Fire shall they be burned; "

And so if Islam was true then all Muslims according to their own teachings can only expect to be sent to Hell on Judgement Day.

Now Muslims try to get around this by saying 'Allah's word' has been changed, in that the Christian Bible we have today has been changed since the originals. But Surah 6:34 says "there is none that can alter the words (and decrees) of Allah."
Surah 10:64 "no change can there be in the words of Allah".
Surah 6:115 & 18:27 "None can change His words".

So everytime a Muslim says that the Old or New Testament has been changed they are accusing their God of being a liar. Rather than saying 'he is the one true God' the Muslim's are announcing to the world that their god is 'the one lying god'.

Muslims today claim that the Bible was altered in the 4th century, now we know this is not true because we can look at the earlier manuscript evidence like I do in this sermon Not believing Jesus is a Sign of Wickedness & Insanity which shows the New Testament we have today can be trusted and is the same as it was in the first century.

Original Sin.

Modern Muslims reject the Biblical concept of original sin, the teaching that each human is born with a 'sin nature'. Now I say modern Muslims, because the Quran says in Surah 12:53 "the (human) soul is certainly prone to evil, unless my Lord do bestow His Mercy" and Surah 16:61 "If Allah were to punish men for their wrong-doing, He would not leave, on the (earth), a single living creature".

Now the modern Muslim belief that man is born good, goes against the evidence we observe. You do not have to teach a small child to steal or lie, but rather they naturally sin and their behaviour is corrected by the discipline of a loving parent. In fact we can clearly observe that when a society refuses to correct bad behaviour, then children grow up with the consequences as this statement from the Minnesota Crime Commission notes:

"Every baby starts life as a little savage. He is completely selfish and self-centered. He wants what he wants when he wants it, his bottle, his mother's attention, his playmate's toys, his uncle's watch. You deny him these things once and he seizes with rage and aggressiveness which would be murderous were he not so helpless. He's dirty. He has no morals. Doesn't know anything and has no developed skills. This means that all children, not just certain children, but all children are born delinquent. If permitted to continue in their self-centered world of infancy, given free rein to their impulsive actions to satisfy each want, every child would grow up a criminal, a thief, a killer, a rapist."

Islam Scholars and the Straw Man.

It is worth noting that virtually all Muslims today have a wrong idea of what Christianity teaches. This is because the Muslim scholars (who virtually all clone arguments of a man named Ahmed Deedat), when educating Muslims to defend their faith, attribute Christianity with set of beliefs, which Christian's don't even believe and then they knock down this straw man they've built. One of such false ideas the Muslims have is a misunderstanding of what the Trinity is.

Islam and the Trinity.

One of the most common objections by Muslims of Christianity is "You believe in three Gods". Now of course Christians do not believe there are three Gods. But it's not surprising that modern Muslims completely misunderstand what we call "the Trinity", as it is clear from the Quran that Muhammad himself completely misunderstood it, and modern Muslims are taught a false idea of what the Trinity is.

From the Quran we can see that Muhammad wrongly thought that the Christian Trinity was God got together with Mary and had a baby. And so he had the wrong idea that the trinity was God the Father, Mary and Jesus. However this is NOT what Christians believe.

Christianity and the Trinity does not teach there are three God’s. There is only One God, but in the Godhead there are three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. A tri-unity. It’s not three God’s, but one God in three persons, blessed trinity.

The best example I think is: a cube is made up of three distinct dimensions, length, depth and breadth. Now it’s one cube, it’s not three cubes. But one cube made up of three dimensions,
and if you take any one of those dimensions away then it’s no longer a cube. In the same way, if you try to take God the Son or God the Holy Spirit away and say either Jesus or the Holy Spirit isn’t fully God, then you’re not worshiping the God of the Bible. (For more on the Trinity, with Scripture, listen to Have You Truly Looked On Him Whom You Have Pierced).

Why God Would Be Sinful And Unjust If He Just Forgave Muslims.

A Muslim claims that he can be forgiven by God by just repenting and asking for forgiveness (despite this nowhere being taught in the Quran). But I'll explain in simple terms why God can not simply just wink at injustice:

When someone is caught speeding, the law demands that a fine is paid. If someone else pays the fine, the judge can still be just and let the speeder go. However if the fine is not paid, and the guilty one simply asks for forgiveness “just let me off his once, I drive safely most of the time, ” like people say “I know I’m guilty of breaking God’s laws, lying, stealing & using His Name as a cuss word, but I’m good most of the time.” Then what they are asking the judge to do, is be corrupt and break the law. And in the same way when a Muslim, Jew, or anybody asks God to forgive them without the payment in full by the blood of Jesus Christ for their sin debt, then they are asking the High & Holy God who cannot sin, to be corrupt and break His law.

We must all stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ” and ...“it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of a Living God.” The Bible says “All liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire,” “No thief, no adulterer, no one having sex outside of marriage & no drunkard will enter Heaven.”

Those in Hell will be tormented forever, burning, weeping & gnashing teeth, in total blackness.

2000 years ago God became a man in Jesus Christ, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life (He never broke one of God’s Commandments, lying, lusting, stealing, that you are guilty of), and then He hung on a cross to be a willing sacrifice to pay the fine for all the sins of those who will repent (forsake sin) & give their life to Him.

By His stripes we are healed, ” “the chastisement for our peace was upon Him,” “He was bruised for our sins”. “For God so loved the World that He gave His Only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.”

To be forgiven you must repent, being sorry for and turning away from your sin (breaking His commandments) and then trusting fully in Jesus Christ alone paying the fine for your sin in full on the cross to save you. Giving your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says “Now is the accepted time, today is the Day of Salvation.” Jesus, invites you to come to Him & be forgiven of your sins today.

The Value of Children Worshiping with their Parents in Church

For a Scriptural analysis see: Children Should Be In The Church Meeting.

First of all, it should strike as strange that we even would take up this subject. Of course, children should be with their parents in the meetings of the church. But in this era, children are almost always hustled away from worship with adults into high energy activities geared to their inclinations.

So the question for consideration here is, if you make the jump and engage your children in worship and teaching (that is usually geared only for adults) what would be the value? What follows are my own observations. I do not have any statistics or passages of scripture to prove any of it. These are the most obvious effects that I have observed.

Here are four value-adding results of our bringing our families together for worship

1. It Fosters Closeness:

Bringing the whole family together for worship, prayer and instruction will enhance the unity love and effectiveness as a team for spreading the glory of God.

Anytime people spend time together, it fosters closeness. This is just a fact of life and it applies to retreats with your company team members or anything. Meeting together in the church will do the same thing to foster closeness. When we are together, our hearts turn toward one another.

At the same time, this should not make families islands, but it should bring them into rich relationship with the family of God. We come to the gathering of the church to link arms with the wider family of God. It would betray a deep unhealthiness if the families were closed societies.

But, people I know who have broken rank to worship with their children, report that there is more love in the family as a result.

2. It places parents at center stage of spiritual development:

The value for the parents will be that it will place them in center stage of the child’s spiritual growth. All family members will hear the same thing together and the parents will be in better position to explain, ask questions and provide practical applications.

It also helps parents understand areas in which the child needs instruction. Being together in this setting will:

* Bring obedience problems to the surface

* Bring broken relationship problems between parents and children to the surface

All of these things will tend to help the children learn to look to the head of the household for ongoing instruction in God’s Word.

3. It Accelerates Skill Development:

This is an opportunity to teach your children some valuable skills that will accelerate their maturity.

There are several things that they will have the opportunity to learn in the process:

How to listen for life changing truth in a lecture setting

How to take notes and share about what was learned

How to honor the speaker by:

* Sitting still

* Keeping eye contact with the speaker

* Honoring the other listeners by refraining from disruptive and selfish behavior like whispering, wandering around the room, squirming and whining.

4. It accelerates maturity.
With parents helping children in the above areas, maturity is accelerated. There are many development oriented experiences that could be mentioned. Here are a few:

Honoring the preaching of God’s Word and participating personally in its life changing message.

Early exposure to advanced vocabulary

Early exposure to advanced theological concepts

After incorporating children into the normal life of the church for several years now, I have had the opportunity to see first hand what happens. Early maturity and enhanced love is the result. I don’t believe that most people would name these as results of the modern age graded Sunday school.

"
Then I got to preach to the many people outside Buckingham Palace. As I started to preach to the many people of different religions including Muslims, atheists, Hindus, and Catholics, people gathered in front of me and sat on the steps listening. I was later told that the police at the gates were straight on their radios. But God was faithful, I had prayed beforehand and it wasn't until I had just finished my 10 minute Gospel message that the police came. They politely asked us to move on and informed us that we wasn't actually doing anything illegal, but if we want to preach there in future then please inform Scotland Yard as they were more concerned at the occasional protester who will preach against the Queen."

Are You At Peace With, Or Under The Wrath of God?- George Whitfield.

But what shall I say to you that have got no peace with God? — and these are, perhaps, the most of this congregation: it makes me weep to think of it. Most of you, if you examine your hearts, must confess that God never yet spoke peace to you; you are children of the devil, if Christ is not in you, if God has not spoken peace to your heart. Poor soul! What a cursed condition are you in. I would not be in your case for ten thousand, thousand worlds. Why? You are just hanging over hell. What peace can you have when God is your enemy, when the wrath of God is abiding upon your poor soul? Awake, then, you that are sleeping in a false peace, awake, ye carnal professors, ye hypocrites that go to church, receive the sacrament, read your Bibles, and never felt the power of God upon your hearts; you that are formal professors, you that are baptized heathens; awake, awake, and do not rest on a false bottom.

Blame me not for addressing myself to you; indeed, it is out of love to your souls. I see you are lingering in your Sodom, and wanting to stay there; but I come to you as the angel did to Lot, to take you by the hand. Come away, my dear brethren _ fly, fly, fly for your lives to Jesus Christ, fly to a bleeding God, fly to a throne of grace; and beg of God to break your hearts, beg of God to convince you of your actual sins, beg of God to convince you of your original sin, beg of God to convince you of your self-righteousness _ beg of God to give you faith, and to enable you to close with Jesus Christ.

O you that are secure, I must be a son of thunder to you, and O that God may awaken you, though it be with thunder; it is out of love, indeed, that I speak to you. I know by sad experience what it is to be lulled asleep with a false peace; long was I lulled asleep, long did I think myself a Christian, when I knew nothing of the Lord Jesus Christ. I went perhaps farther than many of you do; I used to fast twice a-week, I used to pray sometimes none times a-day, I used to receive the sacrament constantly every Lord's-day; and yet I knew nothing of Jesus Christ in my heart, I knew not that I must be a new creature _ I knew nothing of inward religion in my soul. And perhaps, many of you may be deceived as I, poor creature, was; and, therefore, it is out of love to you indeed, that I speak to you. O if you do not take care, a form of religion will destroy your soul; you will rest in it, and will not come to Jesus Christ at all; whereas, these things are only the means, and not the end of religion; Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to all that believe. O, then, awake, you that are settled on your lees; awake you Church professors; awake you that have got a name to live, that are rich and think you want nothing, not considering that you are poor, and blind, and naked; I counsel you to come and buy of Jesus Christ gold, white raiment, and eye-salve.

But I hope there are some that are a little wounded; I hope God does not intend to let me preach in vain; I hope God will reach some of your precious souls, and awaken some of you out of your carnal security; I hope there are some who are willing to come to Christ, and beginning to think that they have been building upon a false foundation. Perhaps the devil may strike in, and bid you despair of mercy; but fear not, what I have been speaking to you is only out of love to you _ is only to awaken you, and let you see your danger.

If any of you are willing to be reconciled to God, God the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, is willing to be reconciled to you. O then, though you have no peace as yet, come away to Jesus Christ; he is our peace, he is our peace-maker _ he has made peace betwixt God and offending man. Would you have peace with God? Away, then, to God through Jesus Christ, who has purchased peace; the Lord Jesus has shed his heart's blood for this. He died for this; he rose again for this; he ascended into the highest heaven, and is now interceding at the right hand of God. Perhaps you think there will be no peace for you. Why so? Because you are sinners? Because you have crucified Christ _ you have put him to open shame _ you have trampled under foot the blood of the Son of God? What of all this? Yet there is peace for you. Pray, what did Jesus Christ say of his disciples, when he came to them the first day of the week? The first word he said was, `Peace be unto you;' he showed them his hands and his side, and said, `Peace be unto you.' It is as much as if he had said, Fear not, my disciples; see my hands and my feet how they have been pierced for your sake; therefore fear not. How did Chris speak to his disciples? `Go tell my brethren, and tell broken-hearted Peter in particular, that Christ is risen, that he is ascended unto his Father and your Father, to his God and your God.' And after Christ rose from the dead, he came preaching peace, with an olive branch of peace, like Noah's dove; `My peace I leave with you.' Who were they? They were enemies of Christ as well as we, they were deniers of Christ once as well as we.

Perhaps some of you have backslidden and lost your peace, and you think you deserve no peace; and no more you do. But, then, God will heal your backslidings, he will love you freely. As for you that are wounded, if you are made willing to come to Christ, come away. Perhaps some of you want to dress yourselves in your duties, that are but rotten rags. No, you had better come naked as you are, for you must throw aside your rags, and come in your blood.

Some of you may say, We would come, but we have got a hard heart. But you will never get it made soft till ye come to Christ; he will take away the heart of stone, and give you an heart of flesh; he will speak peace to your souls; though ye have betrayed him, yet he will be your peace. Shall I prevail upon any of you this morning to come to Jesus Christ? There is a great multitude of souls here; how shortly must you all die, and go to judgment! Even before night, or to-morrow's night, some of you may be laid out for this kirk-yard. And how will you do if you be not at peace with God _ if the Lord Jesus Christ has not spoken peace to your heart? If God speak not peace to you here, you will be damned for ever. I must not flatter you, my dear friends; I will deal sincerely with your souls. Some of you may think I carry things too far. But, indeed, when you come to judgment, you will find what I say is true, either to your eternal damnation or comfort. May God influence your hearts to come to him! I am not willing to go away without persuading you. I cannot be persuaded but God may make use of me as a means of persuading some of you to come to the Lord Jesus Christ.

O did you but feel the peace which they have that love the Lord Jesus Christ! `Great peace have they,' say the psalmist, `that love they law; nothing shall offend them.' But there is no peace to the wicked. I know what it is to live a life of sin; I was obliged to sin in order to stifle conviction. And I am sure this is the way many of you take; If you get into company, you drive off conviction. But you had better go to the bottom at once; it must be done _ your wound must be searched, or you must be damned. If it were a matter of indifference, I would not speak one word about it. But you will be damned without Christ. He is the way, he is the truth, and the life. I cannot think you should go to hell without Christ. How can you dwell with everlasting burnings? How can you abide the thought of living with the devil for ever? Is it not better to have some soul-trouble here, than to be sent to hell by Jesus Christ hereafter? What is hell, but to be absent from Christ? If there were no other hell, that would be hell enough. It will be hell to be tormented with the devil for ever. Get acquaintance with God, then, and be at peace. I beseech you, as a poor worthless ambassador of Jesus Christ, that you would be reconciled to God.

My business this morning, the first day of the week, is to tell you that Christ is willing to be reconciled to you. Will any of you be reconciled to Jesus Christ? Then, he will forgive you all your sins, he will blot out all your transgressions. But if you will go on and rebel against Christ, and stab him daily _ if you will go on and abuse Jesus Christ, the wrath of God you must expect will fall upon you. God will not be mocked; that which a man soweth, that shall he also reap. And if you will not be at peace with God, God will not be at peace with you. Who can stand before God when he is angry? It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God. When the people came to apprehend Christ, they fell to the ground when Jesus said, `I am he.' And if they could not bear the sight of Christ when clothed with the rags of mortality, how will they hear the sight of him when he is on his Father's throne? Methinks I see the poor wretches dragged out of their graves by the devil; methinks I see them trembling, crying out to the hills and rocks to cover them. But the devil will say, Come, I will take you away; and then they shall stand trembling before the judgment-seat of Christ. They shall appear before him to see him once, and hear him pronounce that irrevocable sentence, `Depart from me, ye cursed.' Methinks I hear the poor creatures saying, Lord, if we must be damned, let some angel pronounce the sentence. No, the God of love, Jesus Christ, will pronounce it. Will ye not believe this? Do not think I am talking at random, but agreeably to the Scriptures of truth. If you do not, then show yourselves men, and this morning go away with full resolution, in the strength of God, to cleave to Christ. And may you have no rest in your souls till you rest in Jesus Christ!

When The Local Churches Are A Sin To Be In

Kevin Williams
I was reading Ingrid Schlueter comments over at SliceofLaodicea, about this piece by Jim Elliff, and whilst I agree with Jim (and Ingrid) that we should not forsake the gathering of the Saints, I strongly agree with Ingrid (as I virtually always do) that Jim's (normally excellent) article this time misses the mark.

I think there are two main reasons why people don't go to church:
1) They are not true Christians.
2) They haven't got a good church near to them where it is not a sin to be in.

In fact, I think the real problem is that too many Christians are willing to compromise, and stay in an unbiblical church. The biggest blessing we can give to lukewarm and apostate practices is entrusting our families with them every week.

For the most part, it is not the believers that are forsaking their local churches, but rather it's their local churches that have apostatised.

-How many churches today don't practice church discipline?
-How many churches allow the carnal practice of dating and kissing before marriage, despite Jesus clearly teaching that unrepentant lusting outside of marriage is a sin punishable by Hell?
-How many churches practice decisional regeneration?
-How many churches practice easy-believism?
-How many churches don't believe in Lordship Salvation and instead embrace the heretical 20th century teaching of the carnal Christian?
-How many churches don't know the difference between Christianity and Catholicism?
-How many churches allow women teachers in their pulpits, and give them authority over men?
-How many churches have a pagan worldview when it comes to a Biblical family and Biblical manhood?
-How many churches replace the role of the Father with a carnal youth pastor?
-How many churches segregate families during worship?
-How many churches have Pastors with disobedient 'PK's and are therefore disqualified?
-How many churches don't preach the Bible and instead give short sermons, and said rituals?
-How many churches that do open their Bibles are man-centred giving sermons about man's felt needs?
-How many churches allow Charismatic Chaos with many people at once chanting in claimed 'tongues'?
-How many churches have no passion for the lost?
-How many churches are unsupportive of the Biblical practice of homeschooling?
-How many churches operate a 'quickly get-in get-out' as if it's a fast food restaurant with hardly any 'fellowship' anyway.

Father's should be protecting their wife and children from those environments.

The fact is that the New Testament church which was on fire for God, quite literally, didn't even assemble in local large buildings, but met in homes. Now I'm not saying you can't have a larger church, as someone could have a big house, but true believers need to get together and start Biblical churches (in their homes if need be) where there aren't any, and not compromise with compromisers, otherwise the salt has lost it's saltiness and their lamp is hid under a basket.

The Lord's Supper, The How, When & Why-Kevin Williams

If Christ so desired to break bread with His disciples then how much more should we desire to take part in the Lord's Supper and also desire that we do it right? Whilst the Roman Catholic church has perverted this into an abomination, many evangelical churches are not much better. Unfortunately this ordinance given by Christ to strengthen believers has become nothing more than an empty ritual in a large part of the church today, with many, only coming around the Lord's Table once a month.

In this sermon, we look at the how, when and whys of this great ordinance.

Who Are Christ's "Little One's"? by Charles Leiter

Jesus said "unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven" Mt 18:3,

But what does this mean? Who are Christ's "Little One's"?
So often when Jesus is talking about the Spiritual, people mistake what He's saying for the carnal.

Charles Leiter, author of the excellent Justification and Regeneration, examines the often misunderstood passage of Matthew 18:1-14.

Children's ESV Bible Recommendation.

by Kevin Williams
William Tyndale once said "If God spare my life, ere many years I will cause a boy that driveth the plough to know more of the Scriptures than thou dost".

Now Tyndale was of course speaking against the Roman Catholic Church, 'thou' being the RC priesthood, who were fighting to keep both the average man and those in the pulpit ignorant of what the Scripture taught. But in a spiritual climate today, where most of the congregations up and down the country, and especially so in the pulpit are largely ignorant of what the Bible teaches, imagine a children's Bible, that is not only easy to read, but also a good translation, and contains a section of notes in the back that would cause a child to know more sound theology than the average person in the pulpit.

Well it's here! The ESV have done a sterling work on their ESV children's Bible.

The Children's ESV features:
-11-point type
-Size: 5.5″ x 8.5″
-Words of Christ in red
-Concordance
-Maps and illustrations
-Over 200 full-color illustrations
-See sample 1 or sample 2 of the inside.

The theology notes in the back include:

SIX DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A SINCERE FAITH AND A HYPOCRITICAL FAITH by Thomas Watson (1620-1686)

Therefore, to prevent mistakes, and that we may not be deceived and think we believe when we only presume, I shall give you six differences between a sincere faith, which is the flower of the spirit, and a hypocritical faith, which is the fruit of fancy.

1. A hypocritical faith is easy to come by. It is like the seed in the parable which sprung up suddenly, Mark 4:5. A false faith shoots up without any convictions and soul humblings. As Isaac said, "How comest thou by thy venison so soon?" Genesis 27:20. Likewise, how does this man come by faith so soon? Surely it is of different nature and will quickly wither away. But true faith, being an outlandish plant and of a heavenly extraction, is hard to come by. It costs many a sigh and tear, Acts 2:37. This spiritual infant is not born without pangs.

2. A hypocritical faith is afraid to come to trial. The hypocrite would rather have his faith commended than examined. He can no more endure a Scripture trial than counterfeit metal can endure the touchstone. He is like a man who has stolen goods in his house and is very unwilling to have his house searched. So the hypocrite has gotten some stolen goods that the devil has helped him to, and he is loathe to have his heart searched. Whereas true faith is willing to come to a trial. "Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and heart," Psalm 26:2. David was riot afraid to be tried by a jury, no, though God Himself was one of the jury. Good wares are never afraid of the light.

3. A hypocritical faith has a slight esteem of true faith. The hypocrite hears others speak in the commendation of faith, but he wonders where the virtue of it lies. He looks upon faith as a drug, or some base commodity that will not go off. He will part with all the faith he has for a piece of silver and, perhaps, it might be dear enough at the price. But the man who has true faith sets a high value on it. He reckons this grace among his jewels. What incorporates him into Christ but faith? What puts him into a state of sonship but faith? Galatians 3:26. O precious faith! A believer would not exchange his shield of faith for a crown of gold!

4. A hypocritical faith is lame on one hand. With one hand it would take up Christ. But it does not with the other hand give itself up to Christ. It would take Christ by way of surety, but not give up itself to Him by way of surrender. True faith, however, is impartial. It takes Christ as a Savior and submits to Him as a Prince. Christ said, "With My body and My blood, I endow thee." And faith says, "With my soul, I worship Thee."

5. A hypocritical faith is impure. The hypocrite says he believes, yet goes on in sin. He is all creed, but no commandment. He believes, yet will take God's name in vain. "Wilt thou not cry unto me, My Father, thou art the guide of my youth! Behold, thou hast done evil things as thou couldst," Jeremiah 3:4-5. These impostors would call God their Father, yet sin as fast as they could. For one to say he has faith, yet live in sin, is as if a man should say he was in health, yet his vitals had perished. But a true faith is joined with sanctity. "Holding the mystery of faith in a pure conscience," 1 Timothy 3:9. The jewel of faith is always put in the cabinet of a good conscience. The woman who touched Christ by faith felt a healing virtue come from Him. Though faith does not wholly remove sin, yet it subdues it.

6. A hypocritical faith is a dead faith; it tastes no sap or sweetness in Christ. The hypocrite tastes something in the vine and olive. He finds contentment in the carnal, luscious delights of the world, but no sweetness in a promise. 'The Holy Ghost Himself is spiritless to him. That is a dead faith which has no sense or taste. But true faith finds much delight in heavenly things. The Word is sweeter than the honeycomb, Psalm 19:10. Christ's love is better than wine, Song of Solomon 1:2. Thus we see a difference between true and spurious faith. How many have thought they have had the live child of faith by them, when it has proved the dead child. Take heed of presumption, but cherish faith. Faith applies Christ and makes a spiritual concoction of His body and blood. This supper was intended chiefly for believers, Luke 22:19. Christ's blood to an unbeliever is like aqua-vitae in a dead man's mouth: it loses all its virtue.

The 5 Worst Christian Books

{I found this through James White's website. Michael Newnham gives his Worst 5 Christian Books. There are plenty more 'stinkers' like these we could add to this list.}

HT: Phoenix Preacher

Babylons Dread gets all the credit for this thread…or the blame. :-)

In descending order, off the top of my addled brain , the five worst books I ever bought.

5. Chosen But Free : Norm Geisler

When Dave Hunt writes a book full of half truths and out of context quotes, many aren't surprised.

When a real theologian with the credentials of Norm Geisler does so, we are.

Geisler took it upon himself to redefine 500 year old theological terms in an effort to try to make his case against reformed theology.

The result was a book that caused confusion among many and much consternation among his peers.

Alan Kurschner commented; Geisler’s Chosen But Free is a thoroughly inept work with myriads of straw men, vacuous assumptions, superficial–if any–interaction with Reformed works, muddled terminology, and eisegesis—all of which are documented in The Potter’s Freedom.

The good news is that James White wrote a great response to this that is a very helpful book, the aforementioned Potters Freedom.

Next, another shot across my theological bow that missed badly …

4. The Five Points of Calvinism : George Bryson

If you want to know what kind of grasp Bryson has on the subject watch his debate with James White on YouTube.

I'd move to Russia too.

George won't debate now and it would be nice if he'd do some real research before his next epistle.

Sadly, this misrepresentation of Reformed theology is widely read and accepted by many of Bryson's CC peers.

Just when I thought there was bottom to bad theology came this classic…

Classically awful…

3. What Love Is This?

A little more than three months before writing this half witted assault on Calvinism, Hunt told James White that he had never read any of the Reformers.

Never one to let facts or research get in the way of a smear campaign, Hunt published anyway. complete with endorsements from Chuck Smith and Tim LaHaye.

Here's the fount from which much evangelical sewage flows…

2. "Systematic Theology: Charles Finney

The rape of evangelical doctrine and practice.

Charles Finney denied many of the cardinal doctrines of the Christian faith, including the substitutionary atonement of Christ and justification by faith alone.

Despite this, he is a hero of the faith to many today.

Far from being a hero, he was a heretic.

and the worst book of all time…

Drum roll please…

1. New Age Bible Versions: Gail Riplinger

The grandmother of all the wacky, weird, smear jobs to follow from the "discernment ministries".

Honorable mention goes to Vance's "Dark Side of Calvinism", anything by Hal Lindsey and the "Left Behind" series.

Your turn…

Regeneration & Effectual Grace, Why God's Chosen Will Come-Kevin Williams.

In this sermon we look at:
- How the evidence is overwhelmingly in favour of the God of the Bible.
- We show that the evidence clearly points to a young earth and a Creator, consistent with the Bible.
- The reasons why man in his natural and unregenerate state, unless God the Holy Spirit supernaturally intervenes and changes his desires and will, then he or she will suppress the truth in unrighteousness.
-The Implications: How much of the professing church has not been born of God and is therefore not the church.
-Why we must communicate clearly to people the full Gospel, and Jesus as He is revealed in the Bible.
- Regeneration, how God changes a persons will and desires.
- Justification, and man coming to God.

The Messianic movement , law and the Sabbath by Antony Simon

3 min

Many People are getting interested in the above and there is much confusion out there. I want to give an answer to each from a Biblical perspective and do it in a way that is as brief as possible using a letter I received recently .

I want to begin by stating that we will use the Bible as our sole authority, and as the only rule of faith and practice.

This is a letter that I received as a response to my testimony on you tube.

How are you? I hope you’re doing very well! I just saw your videoHow I found the Jewish Messiah in Israel... and I really liked it a lot and I’m also very happy that you found Yeshua to be the Messiah of Israel...

As a non-Jewish Christian I always had believed in the Jesus of Christianity but over recent years I started to more and more find out about Yeshua as a Jew who was loyal to the Torah and who is the Mashiach of Israel... since a couple of years now I changed my day of weekly rest from Sunday to Shabbat (Saturday) and I do not eat the meat of non-kosher animals any longer...

Actually the reason I’m writing this to you is because I wonder how you look at this thing... do you observe Torah? And also what do you think about non-Jewish believers in Yeshua as the Messiah observing Torah?

I hope you will reply to my questions...”

Yes, my video is titled “How I found the Jewish Messiah in Israel

When I became a believer I printed my testimony and placed it in all the mailboxes where I lived in Manchester, it was originally called “How I found peace in Israel”. You should have seen the nonsense they printed about me in the local Jewish newspaper, and because it mentioned that I went to a village called Kefar Habad and that the rabbi I visited there convinced me more that Jesus was the Messiah, the Habad movement wanted to sue me. Back to the title -

I talk about Yeshua (Jesus) being the Jewish Messiah because He is but I also believe he is the Messiah for all the world , for Jews and Gentiles.

When we talk about Messiah we could as easily say the Christ, both words come from the same root but different languages, Hebrew Mashiach means the “anointed one” and Greek Christos, also “the anointed one”. Different words but the same meaning. The anointed one is the one to be anointed, prophet, priest and king. In the Bible we find people that held two of these offices but never anyone who held three, until Yeshua came along.

We can call the anointed one, Yeshua, or we can call him Jesus, different names because of language but the same person, and whichever name we use when talking about the Messiah we are talking about the same person .

1. “As a non-Jewish Christian”

Let me begin by saying that the most important thing is that you are a Christian, so am I. The word Christian is used three times in the Bible

Acts 11:26 26:28, 1 Peter 4:16, so there is nothing wrong with using it, it just means a follower of Yeshua , a disciple of the Messiah , someone who believes in Yeshua as Lord and Saviour. The Good news is that the wall between Jews and Gentiles has been removed and now we are one in the Messiah. Eph 2

The Church(Ecclesia) is not Jewish and it is not Gentile , it is Messianic or Christian , the body of the Messiah , he has one body and not two. Some Jewish believers prefer to use the term “messianic” rather than “Christian” because of the connotations and misunderstandings the word “Christian” has for most Jews.

2. “I always had believed in the Jesus of Christianity but over recent years I started to more and more find out about Yeshua as a Jew who was loyal to the Torah and who is the Mashiach of Israel...”

There is only one Jesus, the Jesus of History the Jesus of the Gospels. If you read the Gospels you will see that Jesus is Jewish .

I agree there is a lot of bad teaching out there and that many churches try to divorce Jesus from His Jewish origins.

So we need to get back to the Bible, yes, it is wonderful that Jesus kept the Torah and all the demands of the law, if he did not he could not be the Messiah , sinless , spotless lamb of God and His sacrifice would be worthless. He is the Messiah of Israel but also of the whole world, the Savior of the world .I say to people that you can’t be a follower of Jesus and hate Jews because if you hate all Jews you hate Jesus.

3. “since a couple of years now I changed my day of weekly rest from Sunday to Shabbat (Saturday)”

I think that its good you believe the Bible and rest, we are not machines and we have a command from creation to rest one day a week.

The Sabbath is the Saturday, it comes from the Hebrew ,Shabbat, which means to rest but there always is a but in everything, let me ask a question ,which is the day that the early church met on?

It is said that the early church met on Saturday and later on Constantine instituted the Sunday as the day of worship, because, it is said, that he worshipped the sun God. You can say that if you worship on Sunday you also worship the Sun god.

That’s such a strong argument, but I think it is as strong as a piece of straw or even a straw man. Taken to the logical extreme you could say those who worship on Saturday worship Saturn, see the origins of the name.

It is clear that the reason why the early church met on Sunday is because that is the day that the Lord Jesus, (Yeshua Adonenu) rose from the dead. Look up the references in the New covenant and you will see. The Romans never worshipped on a Sunday, they did not even have a seven day week , do some research check these things out !

I hope to speak further in the future and explain the true meaning of the Shabbat (Sabbath) according to the scriptures

4. “and I do not eat the meat of non-kosher animals any longer...”

I met an Adventist a few days ago and I asked him if it is a sin to eat pork and he said yes. I think we have to follow what the Bible says,

The kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, it is not in the external. The Apostle Paul, a Jew, said in 1 tim 4 “3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. “

So it is not a sin to eat pork, the dietary laws where part of the former system, and they had there purpose, which was to keep a holy people separate from other nations. Now under the new covenant, we don’t follow the old dietary laws, we also do not follow the old priesthood , nor the sacrifices, but we do follow the moral law which never changes. The ceremonial law was just a shadow and the body is the Messiah. What do we prefer, a picture of a loved one or the person themselves? The Messiah has come and we don’t need the picture anymore as the Messiah said, “its not what goes into the mouth which defiles a man but which comes out of the mouth, this defiles the man” (Matt 15.11).
