Two Age Model Chart:-Scripture Only Teaches Two Ages (not a temporay millenial Kingdom)

HT: Kim Riddlebarger (check out chart pdf)

Biblical Texts Which Speak of “This Age”

Matthew 12:32 - There is no forgiveness for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit
Matthew 24:3 - The end of the age will be preceded by signs
Matthew 28:20 - Christ will be with us until the end of the age
Luke 18:30 - There are material rewards given to us in this life
Luke 20:34 - The people of this age marry and are given in marriage
Mark 10:30 - The present age is an age of homes, fields, and families
Romans 12:2 -We are not to be conformed to the pattern of this world (age)
I Corinthians 1:20 - Philosophy is the wisdom of this age
I Corinthians 2:6-8 -Wisdom and rulers are of this age
II Corinthians 4:4 - Satan is the god of this age who has blinded the minds of men and women
Galatians 1:4 - The present age is evil
Ephesians 1:21 - Christ reigns in present age
Ephesians 2:2 - The ways of this world (age) are evil
I Timothy 6:17 - Those who are rich in this age, are not to hope in their wealth for the next
Titus 2:12 -We are to live Godly lives in the present age

In every instance the qualities associated with “this age” are temporal in nature. These texts describe the present course of history before the return of Christ and are things which pass away at his return.

Biblical Texts Which Speak of the “Age to Come”

Matthew 12:32 - No forgiveness for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit
Matthew 13:40 - The weeds will be thrown into the fire
Mark 10:30 - Eternal life as a reward
Luke 18:30 - Eternal life as a reward
Luke 20:35 - No marriage or giving in marriage
I Corinthians 6:9-10 - Evil doers will not inherit the kingdom of God
I Corinthians 15:50 - Flesh and blood will not inherit the kingdom of God
Galatians 5:21 - Those who live evil lives will not inherit the kingdom
Ephesians 1:21 - Christ will reign in age to come
Ephesians 5:5 - Immoral people will not inherit kingdom of God
I Thessalonians 2:12 -We are encouraged to live lives worthy of the kingdom
II Thessalonians 1:5 - Faith will count you worthy of the kingdom of God
I Timothy 6:19 - The coming age has life that is truly life
II Timothy 4:18 - The Lord will bring us to kingdom of God

In marked contrast to “this age” the qualities assigned to the age to come are all eternal (or non-temporal) in nature. These references are clearly describing the future eschatological state of believers (and nonbelievers if you factor in the references to judgment).

The Line of “Demarcation” Between the Two Ages

Matthew 13:39 - The harvest is the end of the age, and the angels are the harvesters
Matthew 13:40 - The weeds will be burned in the fire at the end of the age (judgment)
Matthew 13:49 - The angels will separate the wicked from the righteous

Why I Am Not A Dispensationalist Or Premillenialist-Kevin Williams

Quote from this sermon: (summary points below quote)
"a bomb goes off in America, or some other part of the world, and we all say what a tragedy that is, and we mourn for them. But then someone fires a missile or a bomb at Israel, or threatens to nuke them, and then all the dispensationalists who are always telling us how much they love Israel, and are accusing everyone who’s not a dispensationist of being anti-semetic, they’re all giggling amongst themselves, getting excited, saying, "Oooh, 50 Israelites have been killed, how exciting". There is something sickening about that truth. Those are real people, real souls.

But you see Biblical eschatology is really about, the Joy of Christ’s return, and seeing Him face to face. And seeing Him sat upon His throne, seeing Christ exalted, and every knee bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord."

In this sermon we show how Scripture clearly teaches that:
-God does not have two brides, Israel and the Church, but One People in Jesus Christ.
-When Christ returns it will be the eternal age and not a temporary 1000 year Kingdom
-We also look at the 3 Faulty Hermeneutic Rules of Dispensationalism.
-Any Jews outside of Jesus Christ are NOT God's people.

Manchester Open-Air Pics -Sat 27 June 09

Today we were blessed to have Kim and Clair travel up from Bristol to join us in Manchester for the open-air preaching. After their three hour train journey, they came back to our home for a cooked breakfast, and a wonderful fellowship time of prayer, worship and breaking bread together, before the group of us hit the streets of Manchester to share Words of Life. We go out each week (normally Thur), and if you'd like to join us then contact us. Kim brought her camera, so below are some of the pictures of the day. (Click on pics to enlarge).

Loving Those Who Hurt You-Voice Of The Martyrs

"I hate the Communist system, but I love the men.
I hate the sin, but I love the sinner.
I love the Communists with all of my heart.
Communists can kill Christians, but they cannot kill their love toward even those who kill them.
I have not the slightest bitterness or resentment against the Communists or my torturers."

Many Chruch Leaders Are Appointed By Men But Not God~Wong Ming Dao

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."Acts 20:28

"These words were addressed by Paul at Miletus to the elders of the church at Ephesus. He wanted them to be clear in their minds that although they had been made overseers of the whole flock by the apostles, yet more important was the fact that they had been made overseers by the Holy Spirit. Paul gave them this reminder so that they might recognize the weight of their responsibility and the importance of their commission. Therefore they had to be watchful for themselves and watchful for the whole flock. It is obvious from this that if those who shepherd the church have only a human appointment, and are not appointed by the Holy Spirit, then they are basically unqualified to oversee the flock. In all organizations you can have officials appointed by men, but without the guidance and seal of the Holy Spirit you cannot have true leaders in the church. In the churches today there are bishops, elders, pastors, and deacons in large numbers. But how many are appointed by the Holy Spirit? And how many are appointed by men? The Holy Spirit cannot appoint those who have not believed as overseers of the flock. Even less can He appoint those who 'regard piety as a pass to profit' as overseers of the flock.

Obviously we cannot say how many church leaders today are appointed by the Holy Spirit and how many are not appointed by the Holy Spirit. But it is quite clear that many occupy offices in the church without being appointed by the Spirit. Why is the [professing] church today so corrupt? Naturally there are many reasons for this, but the absence of Spirit-appointed leaders is one of the outstanding reasons... One of the most important prayers that we can ever pray for the Church is that the Spirit of God will raise up overseers."~Wong Ming-Dao from A Stone Made Smooth.

Christianity Has One Drawing Card-It Is Christ ~Paul Washer

"This is why much of the seeker friendly stuff is an abomination. Christianity has One drawing card: It is Christ. Social events or promising some sort of fellowship or friendship or this or that or any other thing is not Christianity. The fellowship and the friendliness and everything else must come forth out of Christ. It is Christ that brings you into that fellowship, not the fellowship that brings you into Christ so much. When you start your churches, when you plant your churches, when you preach your Gospel, put Christ before men and let them deal with Him. If they reject Christ, allow them to reject your fellowship. Don't bring them in gradually. Put Christ before them completely, and at first, and along with the demands. Do it lovingly, do it patiently, do it thoroughly.

When I was a young Christian, I heard that many cults practice what's called the 'divine lie', that they will tell you certain lies if necessary in order to gradually bring you in, so that you will accept the greater [teachings], so the end justifies the means. In many ways, that is what church-growth does, the end justifies the means-'Well we finally got them there to Christ'. No! Remember this, if you use carnal means to bring carnal men into your church, you'll have a carnal church and you'll have to constantly use carnal means to keep them. Start off with Christ from the very beginning. The radical claims of Christ and the radical demands of Christ."~Paul Washer

My Favourite Passage In The Bible

Quite some time ago we memorized this passage of Scripture in our family devotions, and I often go to sleep dwelling and meditating on it at night, and this glimpse of Jesus in His glory always leaves me breathless, with my heart skipping a beat overwhelmed both in love and in awe.

Isaiah 6

1In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.

3And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

4And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

6Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

8Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

The same passage NKJV:

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:

“ Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 So I said:

“ Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The LORD of hosts.”

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said:

“ Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin purged.”

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:

“ Whom shall I send,
And who will go for Us?”

Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

Wonderful Spurgeon Quotes on Evangelism

"Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter."

"Do you want arguments for soul winning? Look up to Heaven, and ask yourself how sinners can ever reach those harps of gold and learn their everlasting song, unless they have someone to tell them of Jesus, who is mighty to save. But the best argument of all is to be found in the wounds of Jesus. You want to honour Him, you desire to put many crowns upon His head, and this you can best do by winning souls for Him. These are the spoils that He covets, these are the trophies for which He fights, these are the jewels that shall be His best adornment."

"Lost! Lost! Lost! Better a whole world on fire than a soul lost! Better every star quenched and the skies a wreck than a single soul to be lost!"

"I would sooner bring one sinner to Jesus Christ than unravel all the mysteries of the divine Word, for salvation is the one thing we are to live for."

"If there be any one point in which the Christian church ought to keep its fervor at a white heat, it is concerning missions. If there be anything about which we cannot tolerate lukewarmness,
it is the matter of sending the gospel to a dying world."

"When preaching and private talk are not available, you need to have a tract ready....Get good striking tracts, or none at all. But a touching gospel tract may be the seed of eternal life. herefore, do not go out without your tracts."

"To be a soul winner is the happiest thing in the world. And with every soul you bring to Jesus Christ, you seem to get a new heaven here upon earth."

"If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies. And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for."

"If there existed only one man or woman who did not love the Saviour, and if that person lived among the wilds of Siberia, and if it were necessary that all the millions of believers on the face of the earth should journey there, and every one of them plead with him to come to Jesus before he could be converted, it would be well worth all the zeal, labour, and expense. If we had to preach to thousands year after year, and never rescued but one soul, that one soul would be full reward for all our labour, for a soul is of countless price."

Jim Elliot Quotes

HT: No Cross No Crown.

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose."

"God, I pray Thee, light these idle sticks of my life and may I burn for Thee. Consume my life, my God, for it is Thine. I seek not a long life, but a full one, like you, LORD Jesus."

"Saturate me with the oil of Thy Spirit, that I may be aflame. Make me Thy fuel O flame of God."

"We are so utterly ordinary, so commonplace, while we profess to know a Power the Twentieth Century does not reckon with. But we are "harmless," and therefore unharmed. We are spiritual pacifists, non-militants, conscientious objectors in this battle-to-the-death with principalities and powers in high places. Meekness must be had for contact with men, but brass, outspoken boldness is required to take part in the comradeship of the Cross. We are "sideliners" -- coaching and criticizing the real wrestlers while content to sit by and leave the enemies of God unchallenged. The world cannot hate us, we are too much like its own. Oh that God would make us dangerous!"

Are You One Of THE FEW Who Find Eternal Life?

Death-Bed Repentance - Bob Jennings

HT: Thoughts on the Way.

The Weakness of the Doctrine of Death-Bed Repentance.

Some promote the idea that we cannot say a departed non-Christian is in hell, in that he might have repented secretly just before he died. Here are some thoughts on unknown late repentance.

1. We must remember the fact that there is no reason to think they did repent, if indeed there was no genuine evidence of it before death.

2. The Bible does not give encouragement or comfort about such thinking – that they might have made some secret repentance.

3. The Bible makes salvation contingent upon a confession. (Rom 10:.9-10)

4. The Bible boldly assumes men perish, if there is no reason to think they repented; for example:

a. Judas Iscariot
b. the false workers, Phil. 3.19, "their end is destruction", and, 2 Cor 11.15, "their end is according to their deeds."

5. The devil would like to promote such thinking, as he would rob God of His glory, the glory God would get from putting the person in hell, or receiving a confession, as in the case of the thief on the cross.

6. The sinner would like to hear such thinking, for it would encourage him to continue in his sin and slip in to heaven the way he presumes the deceased hopefully did. After all, that is what these Christians are saying and hoping, and they claim to be ‘in the know.’

Death-bed repentance is rare. “There is one death bed repentance recorded in the Bible (the thief on the cross), so that no one despair, but there is ONLY one, so that no one will presume.”
Matthew Henry

Death-bed repentance is rarely true. True repentance can be late, but late repentance is seldom true. “Late repentance is seldom satisfactory.”
J.C. Ryle.

Don't Tell Me You Want To Walk With God When You Watch Things On TV That Grieve The Holy Spirit-Paul Washer

"Do you have a television? I do. It's not connected to anything. We watch tapes, videos. My two and a half year old boy, we were so happy the other night we sat down and watched the Gates of Splendour together. He watched the whole thing, I am so happy. Are there good things out there that I could see in that television? Yes there is. Can I make use of it? Yes most certainly I can. Can I watch CBS, and NBC? Absolutely not!!! Don't tell me that you want to walk with God and you want the Holy Spirit to fall down on this place, when you watch things before you get in the pulpit that grieve the Holy Spirit "~Paul Washer

Rejecting All Unscriptural Traditions-Wong Ming-Dao

"Why did I encounter opposition? Apart from the fact that I rebuked prevalent sins both in the world and in the church, and that I opposed not only false prophets but also the apostate teachings of modernist, there was another reason. It was that I opposed all traditions in the church that did not harmonize with Scripture. There are some believers who regard these traditions as equal authority to the Scriptures. The Roman Catholic Church brought in many practices not according to the Bible. At the time of the reformation in the 15th and 16th centuries not a few of the Roman Catholic doctrines were given up by the Protestant churches, but some of the traditional practices were retained. Now why is it that I personally have not accepted these traditions? It is because when I studied the truth I had not only never studied at a theological college but also I have never studied any theological books. All I did was to read the Old Testament and the New Testament over and over again. My beliefs and the message I preached were derived in their entirety from the Bible. I cared not about how many truths some preachers had uprooted from the Bible, nor how many traditions had been added by others, whatever I found in the Bible I accepted - no less and no more. It was not surprising therefore that certain believers both misunderstood me and opposed me."~Wong Ming-Dao from A Stone Made Smooth.

Biblical Family pt3-First Kiss Should Be On The Wedding Day-Biblical Principles For Courtship Verses Worldly & Demonic Dating-Kevin Williams

In part 3 of our series looking at principles for the Biblical Family (part 1 here & part 2 here), we look at:
-That the first kiss should be on the wedding day.
-That the Christian has a responsibility to keep him or herself pure before marriage and not put themselves in unnecessary places of temptation.
-That recreational dating is outside of the will of God, and the Bible is not even vague about these things.
-Anyone who continues in the sin of lusting over people they are not married to will end up in Hell.

God Is Not Pleased If We Do Battle For The Sake Of Doing Battle-Wong Ming-Dao

"Naturally I do not intentionally arouse their anger, for God is by no means pleased if we go out and do battle for the sake of doing battle. The reason I rebuke sin and apostasy, without accepting any excuse, is that when I am confronted with these things I am filled with great anxiety (headache and heartache) and I simply cannot endure it. Another reason is that I have a deep sense of God's commission to do this. And woe is me if I fail to preach as He directs. I prefer to be attacked by men than to call forth the wrath of God."~Wong Ming-Dao from A Stone Made Smooth.

Courage To Rebuke Apostasies-Wong Ming-Dao

"If I spoke out, I encountered derision and opposition; if I did not speak out, then I could not contain myself (Jer 20:8-9). What did I do? I had to speak. Thank God, the more I spoke the greater the courage He gave me; the bolder I was, the greater my power. He made me become 'a fortified city, an iron pillar, a bronze wall'. I was encouraged by the words of God spoke to Jeremiah: 'be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee' (1:8) and again 'They shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee' (1:19). Strengthened by these promises I was given the courage to rebuke the sins of the world and apostasies in the church. "~Wong Ming-Dao from A Stone Made Smooth.

Exposing The Errors Of Heretics-Wong Ming-Dao

"On August 30th I went to De-Hisen to speak at meetings for leaders in the Congregational Church and churches of the London Mission. I heard that an unconverted evangelist was distorting Bible truth in his preaching and ruining the faith of the congregation. I was greatly disturbed about this and taking my courage with both hands I took the opportunity, in the middle of the meetings, to point out his errors one by one. Predictably I aroused the ire of all the members of his particular group and they wildly cursed and attacked me. This was the first occasion on which I had publicly declared war on evil forces within the church. Thank God, He led me in triumph in Christ."~Wong Ming-Dao from A Stone Made Smooth.

Evangelism Rallies & Multi-"Churches" Evangelism-Wong Ming-Dao

"In March 1924 I was invited together with more than thirty preachers, Chinese and Western, from all churches in the city, to go and take part in an evangelistic campaign at an army camp farther south. It was the first time that I had joined workers from all the churches. Unhappily the things I saw and heard caused me great anxiety (lit. headache and heartache). A few amongst these preachers made a good impression, but for the most part they were truly unworthy to be called servants of God. As a result of the six days' evangelism there were more than 3,000 baptized. But it was apparent by careful observation that only a few of them really repented and trusted in the Lord. On the day when they all met enthusiastically for the baptismal ceremony I could not bear to be a spectator, and I returned by train to the city. This experience made me recognize all the more clearly the corruption, the emptiness and poverty of the churches in China. It stirred me to give myself more enthusiastically to the work of the Lord."~Wong Ming-Dao from A Stone Made Smooth.

My Friend Shot Me-Voice Of The Martyrs.

Reading The Bible Once Every 10 Days-Wong Ming-Dao

"Every day I rose early and took my Bible to Crouching Tiger Mountain. Sitting on the stones at the riverside I would study my Bible and pray. I also found pleasure watching the tiny fish swimming in the stream. I watched the sun setting over the distant mountains. Sometimes I would go to a nearby cemetery and there again I would read my Bible and meditate. When the weather was fine I would climb to the top of the hill and there sing hymns and pray. From time to time I would meet a countryman and talk to him about the Gospel.

I had two methods of reading my Bible. One method was to read the whole book from beginning to end. Another way was to study important themes. The 62 days I spent in Da-ya were like attending a short-term Bible School. I read the Bible right through six times. I certainly made considerable progress in my understanding of the truth."~Wong Ming-Dao from A Stone Made Smooth.

Widows Group (Martyred Husbands)-Voice of the Matrys

Humbling: Thank you, halleluiah

Though they have lost their husbands, these women still praise the Lord. They are a part of a widows group in Kaduna, Nigeria. The last Thursday of every month, they meet together for prayer and encouragement. People who wanted to harm them took their earthly spouses away from them, but the widows thank their heavenly father who meets all their needs.

Manufactured Tongues- Wong Ming Dao

Mr. Ju then [after water baptism] directed us to seek the Holy Spirit. This is the teaching most emphasized by the Pentecostals. The Pentecostal groups in China previously included the Pentecostal Church, the Apostolic Faith Church, and the Church of God. Today they are mostly known as the Assemblies of God. They maintain that speaking in tongues is the one and only sign of receiving the Holy Spirit. Mr Ju worked in a small Pentecostal Church in the city of Peking. Originally he was a coal merchant but because of zeal for the Lord he gave up his business to become a preacher. He is a devout and sincere believer, well aquainted with the Bible. But he did not greatly understand the truths of the Bible and he lacked general knowledge.

On the third day after we were baptized, at 10 o'clock in the morning, Mr Ju came again to the inn to pray that we might receive the Holy Spirit. He preached to us the ten commandments in detail. That afternoon after 3 o'clock all five students spoke in 'tongues' leaving only me who had not spoken. The next day (the 8th) I prayed earnestly the whole day, but I still had not spoken in tongues. On the 9th, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, we again prayed together in the inn. My tongue produced some incomprehensible sounds and Mr Ju annonced that I was speaking in tongues, and that I had received the Holy Spirit. But in fact I was not conscious of any change at that time. It had been on November 21st, when I confessed my sins to the Lord, that I was conscious of a marked changed. Rather than the day when I uttered sounds which could not be understood, it was the day when I confessed my sins and obeyed God's commandments, giving up everything, that I was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Mr Ju had taught us simply to cry 'Hallelujah' and to repeat those syllables in succession without stopping. Thus it seemed to be the manufacture of tongues by a man. Naturally we did not regard Mr Ju, who was a sincere and devout man, as having deceived us. Rather he was deceived himself, and through his own lack of common sense it was he himself who suffered loss."~Wong Ming-Dao from A Stone Made Smooth.

"Our calling in life is to know God, and to love God, and to walk with God, and in that relationship with God to be conformed to the image of His Son. And there will be this burning, brethren, of the image of the Living God upon our face and upon our heart so that when men are with us, they sense a distinction, they sense a difference."~Far East Missionary"

All That God Does Is Wonderful-Wong Ming-Dao

"All that God does is wonderful. He delivered me from the deep pit of sin; He cleansed me through the blood of His Son our Lord Jesus Christ, and by His Spirit He gave a new birth and I became His child. He also chose me and called me, bringing me into His Service and setting me up to be a watchman both in the world and in the church. He commanded me to labour for the Gospel, to battle for His Truth, and to witness to His Way. When I reflect on these things I cannot doubt His call in the slightest and I dare not have even the appearance of idleness."~Wong Ming-Dao (A Chinese Pastor)

The Virtuous Woman-Paul Washer

"Everytime a woman in Scripture pursues a man she is considered immoral."
"A woman who is sensual has an evil heart."

Question For Dispensationalists?

I don't mean to tar everyone with the same brush here, (so if you're a dispensationalist then feel free to exclude or include yourself in this), but I do see in the most part a large inconsistency amongst many.
Dispensationalists tend to subscribe to magazines about the glory of Israel, buy their oranges from Israel etc, give money to Israel, support any government that is pro-Israel, interpret most of Scripture as being about Israel, get very upset when anyone disagrees on Israel.

So my question to dispensationalists is:
When was the last time you witnessed to an ethnic Jew and how often do you do this?

To borrow a phrase from Voddie Baucham, "Don't say Amen you ought to say ouch".
