Must Hear: Self Control & the Road To Ruin: Samson's Fall -Clint Leiter

"Show me a man who is unwilling to exercise self-control and I'll show you a man who is striving towards ruin... Self-control is a matter of the will. You purpose you will or you will not. That's the distinction between self control or lack of it.... Young people, the sooner you can learn this lesson, it's a valuable lesson, I would have to rank it in the top five maybe of lessons of life to learn: Someones gonna be in charge, someones gonna give the orders. Is it going to be your body or is gonna be your spirit? That is the essence of self-control and if it's your body then I say you're on the road to ruin. The Apostle Paul he didn't sugar-coat it. Has anyone written more New Testament Scripture than the Apostle Paul? He was responsible for forming and exspositing the doctrines and yet he leaves the possibility open that if he does not discipline his body and make it his slave, he's going to be in the end cast away regardless of how much preaching he's done to others. That is a weighty statement. 2nd Timothy in chapter 3 describes those who are without self control, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, in the end they perish. They might hold to a form of godliness but there's no power in it and we're talking about self-control here. It's such an imperative that Jesus said: If you're going to be my disciple you're going to have to daily deny yourself. That's self-control right? It is! The sins of the flesh they kill their thousands but self-control kills ten-thousands. Lack of self control is like a fountain head of which all other sins flow out of." ~Clint Leiter

This is a short clip of Paul Washer talking about overcoming depression. So often those who are "Depressed" are actually in sin and need to repent and need to be rebuked. Self-pity is a deceitful sin that trips up many.

MUST LISTEN: Fact, Faith, Feelings -Garrett Holthaus

"Conrad Murrell said... "If you don't bring your thought life into captivity of what you know is true you will live a wretched, miserable life," and I want to submit to you... that the exact same is true with regard to your feelings. If you don't bring your feelings into captivity to what you know is true you will live a wretched, miserable, defeated life. Many Christians are wretched, miserable precisely because they make their feelings the barometer of their spiritual life..."~Garret Holthaus

The One Concern Of The Devil & Other Prayer Quotes

"Prayer does not fit us for the greater work, prayer is the greater work."~Oswald Chambers

"When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy."~Corrie Ten Boom

"The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless works and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray."~Samuel Chadwick

"The neglect of prayer is a grand hindrance to holiness."~John Wesley

"Prayer is not so much an act as it is an attitude-an attitude of dependency, dependency upon God."~Arthur W. Pink

"The reason why many fail in battle is because they wait until the hour of battle. The reason why others succeed is because they have gained the victory on their knees long before the battle came... Anticipate your battles; fight them on your knees before temptation comes, and you will always have victory."~R. A. Torrey

"Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan."~John Bunyan

"Real praying is a costly exercise but it pays far more than it costs. It is not easy work but it is most profitable of all work. We can accomplish more by time and strength put into prayer than we can by putting the same amount of time and strength into anything else."~R. A. Torry

"The prayer power has never been tried to its full capacity. If we want to see mighty works of Divine power and grace wrought in the place of weakness, failure and disappointment, let us answer God's standing challenge, "Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know"(Jeremiah 33:3)."~Hudson Taylor

Reading The Details Of Divorce Cases In Newspapers Makes You Guilty Of Adultery Before God ~Lloyd Jones

"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matt 5:27-28

"But let me say a word about the subtlety of sin. Sin is this terrible thing which so deludes and fools us as to make us feel quite happy and contented so long as we have not committed the act. 'Yes', I say, 'I was tempted, but thank God I did not fall.' That is all right up to a point, so long as I am not too content with that. If I am merely satisfied with the fact that I did not do the thing, I am all wrong. I ought to go on and ask: 'But why did I want to do it?' That is where the subtlety of sin comes in. It affects the whole constitution of man. It is not merely something in the animal part of our nature; it is in our mind and outlook, and it makes us think corruptly in that manner. Then think of the clever way in which it insinuates itself into the mind, and the terrible way in which we are guilty of sinning with the mind. There are highly respectable men and women who would never dream of committing an act of adultery, but look at the way in which they enjoy sinning in the mind and in the imagination. We are dealing with practical matters, we are dealing with life as it is. This is what I mean. You have never been guilty of adultery? All right. Would you then answer me this simple question. Why do you read all the details of divorce cases in the newspapers? Why do you do it? Why is it essential that you should read right through these reports? What is your interest? It is not a legal interest, is it? or a social one? What is it? There is only one answer: you are enjoying it. You would not dream of doing these things yourself, but you are doing them by proxy. You are sinning in your heart and mind and in your imagination, and you are therefore guilty of adultery. That is what Christ says. How subtle this awful, terrible thing is! How often do men sin by reading novels and biographies. You read the reviews of a book and find that it contains something about a man's misconduct or behavior, and you buy it. We pretend we have a general philosophical interest in life, and that we are sociologists reading out of pure interest. No, no; it is because we love the thing; we like it. It is sin in the heart; sin in the mind!" ~Martyn Lloyd Jones

A Believers Death Is Like The Owner of a Garden Plucking A Favourite Flower ~Matthew Henry

"And to take believers to himself: he picks the lilies one by one; and at the great day he will send forth his angels to gather all his lilies, that he may be for ever admired in them. The death of a believer is not more than the owner of a garden plucking a favourite flower; and He will preserve it from withering, yea, cause it to flourish for ever, with increasing beauty" ~Matthew Henry

There is a fountain filled with blood ~William Cowper

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day;
And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away.
Washed all my sins away, washed all my sins away;
And there have I, though vile as he, washed all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its power
Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.
Be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more.

E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die;
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.

Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I’ll sing Thy power to save,
When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave.
Lies silent in the grave, lies silent in the grave;
When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave.

Lord, I believe Thou hast prepared, unworthy though I be,
For me a blood bought free reward, a golden harp for me!
’Tis strung and tuned for endless years, and formed by power divine,
To sound in God the Father’s ears no other name but Thine.
-Williams Cowper

God's Sovereignty In Salvation -Kevin Williams (Bible Study)

Fri night Bible Study looking at essential and basic doctrine:
-The effect of the fall of mankind: Each person is born guilty before God, spiritually dead with a nature bent on sinning.
-Election: That God chose who He will save and who He will not, before He made the world, and that decision was not based in anyway on a foreseen action of man.
-That when God saves a person, He gives them a new nature bent on doing righteousness
-That the lost person left to themselves cannot repent and believe the Gospel, however inability to repent does not negate man's responsibility to repent and believe the Gospel.
-A true convert cannot lose their salvation, those who fall away only prove they were never truly saved in the first place.
-That the cross of Christ was sufficient for all, but Jesus died especially and effectually for those God has chosen to save.

Only let me get to Jesus Christ! ~Ignatius upon being condemned to death in Rome AD 110

Yes, if I prove to be one [by being faithful to the end], then I can have the name...Come fire, cross, battling with wild beasts, wrenching of bones, mangling of limbs, crushing of my whole body, cruel tortures of the Devil--Only let me get to Jesus Christ!" ~Ignatius, upon being condemned to death in Rome AD 110

The Father Is Pleased When Jesus Pleads For You Believer

Everything Jesus does always pleases His Father (John 8:29). When Jesus pleads the believers case before the throne of God, it pleases your Father in Heaven.

Our Perfect Advocate

An advocate is one who speaks on behalf of another, especially in a legal context. A normal advocate pleads only his words, Christ pleads His blood, for the believers.

1 John 2:1 "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous"

The Cult Manipulation Of The Altar Call -Paul Washer

Preachers Intellectual Persuasion .v. True Conversion by a Sovereign work of the Spirit ~A W Pink

"A preacher may induce a man to believe what Scripture says about his lost condition, persuade him to bow to the divine verdict, and then accept Christ as his personal Saviour. No man wants to go to Hell, and if he is assured intellectually that Christ stands ready as a fire escape, on the sole condition that he jump into His arms (“rest on His finished work”), thousands will do so. But a hundred preachers are unable to make an unregenerate person realize the dreadful nature of sin, or show him that he has been a lifelong rebel against God, or change his heart so that he now hates himself and longs to please God and serve Christ. Only the Spirit can bring man to the place where he is willing to forsake every idol, cut off a hindering right hand, or pluck out an offending right eye (see Matthew 5:27-30)." ~A. W. Pink

Let Us Resolve Never to Be Ashamed of Christ ~J.C. Ryle

"The wickedness of being ashamed of Christ is very great. It is a proof of unbelief. It shows that we care more for the praise of men whom we can see, than that of God whom we cannot see. It is a proof of ingratitude. It shows that we fear confessing Him before man who was not ashamed to die for us upon the cross. Wretched indeed are they who give way to this sin. Here, in this world, they are always miserable. A bad conscience robs them of peace. In the world to come they can look for no comfort. In the day of judgment they must expect to be disowned by Christ to all eternity, if they will not confess Christ for a few years upon earth. Let us resolve never to be ashamed of Christ. Of sin and worldliness we may well be ashamed. Of Christ and His cause we have no right to be ashamed at all. Boldness in Christ’s service always brings its own reward. The boldest Christian is always the happiest person." ~J.C. Ryle
